A Morning on the shores of Chahafi Crater Lake, Safari Uganda

Lake ChahafiLocated in southwestern Uganda about 460 kilometers’ from Uganda’s capital Kampala is Kisoro town. This beautiful hilly and scenic town has numerous crater lakes; however, Chahafi Crater Lake fame is shadowed by the renowned lake Mutanda and Lake Bunyonyi. Waking up by Lake Chahafi

Awakening to the sweet sound of different birds which slips into your room every morning is a unique experience of its own. Once you step out of your doorstep, you will enjoy sights of the towering Mt Muhavura a distance away, whose peak is blanketed by the morning clouds.

At the turn of your head to the opposite direction, you will see the waters of the lake sparkling under the morning sun, and inviting you to be explored. As you take a walk on the crater’s shores you will see various colored birds including the crested cranes calmly singing as the cool breeze blows.

Lake Chahafi a Bird-watching Paradise

This is considered among the good bird watching places in western Uganda, thanks to the great diversity of bird species in this area. The Crater Lake lies within the Kazinga region in the southwestern part of the country which is the leading area in Uganda greatly endowed with numerous types of birds and in great numbers.  Among the commonly seen bird species at Lake Chahafi though hardly seen in other places include: the swamp warblers, Lesser Jacana, African Jacana, BrackCrake, swamp flycatchers, Blue-headed Coucal, and the Common Moorhen, in addition to the Malekite Kingfishers and Common Moorhen.

Enjoy the Beautiful Scenery

This area is also known as the “The Switzerland of Uganda” thanks to its rocky mountainous landscape as well as the Mediterranean climate. Across the entire Kigezi region, the area with Lake Chahafi is considered as the most beautiful area by most of the tour guides that have much traveled this area. Moving on eastwards, you will find Lake Kayumbu considered to be the twin lake to Lake Chahafi.  These two lakes are separated by a towering hill, and hiking to the top of it will reward you with breathtaking sweeping views over the terrain below.

On the shores of Lake Chahafi is a beautiful resort known as Lake Chahafi Resort that offers nice accommodation facilities as well as outstanding services to its clients. Because this lake is less than 20 kilometers from Mgahainga Gorilla Park and about 20 kilometer from Mt Sabinyo, Mt. Muhavura as well as Mt.
