Semuliki National Park

This the eastern extension of the great Ituri forest. It is one of the richest areas for both flora and fauna in Africa. Semuliki national park is situated in the western arm of the
east African rift valley in the remote extreme corner of western Uganda.

The park was gazette in 1993 and it covers approximately 220km. it occupies a flat to a gently undulating landscape going as low as 670m above sea level. Semuliki national park boasts of its fantastic and breathtaking scenery, it is here that you will come to meet the most thrilling meandering roads through the Rwenzori mountain escapements to Bundibugyo.

At a place called Mungu Nimukubwa a local name meaning God is big, you will view among other things the fuming sepiya hot springs, the meandering Semuliki river, and a true tropical rain forest. Like mentioned above, this park is a home to the two famous hot springs ‘male’ and‘female’.

Here you will come face to face with the fuming two meter jet of hot mineral water coming from the ground at about 130 degrees centigrade.

Food is cooked here just by placing the food pan on the ground and the hot water will cook your food to the desired level.

Semuliki national park also is very rich in its birdlife. It is a must go for the keen bird watchers with over 412 bird species recorded In this park alone and out of these some are not found any where else in East Africa, on a lucky day you will also be able to see statungas, leopards, pigmy hippos, crocodiles and a variety of monkeys including the black and white Columbus monkey.
