Mount Elgon National Park
This is an extinct volcanic mountain that stands as high as 4321 meters above sea level,
it is believed to have been higher than the Kilimanjaro of today that is during the
prehistoric days.
The park covers an area of 1145sq.km and is located in the eastern
part of the country neighboring with Kenya, in fact Mount Elgon extends into Kenya
although the highest peak of the mountain lays in Uganda and can easily be accessed
from Ugandan side.
The beautiful scenery is the main attraction of the park, the park prouds itself in the
variety of forest monkeys as well as other mammals. The park has got over 300 bird
species including some that are not found any where else in Uganda.

The main activities in this park is hiking on this beautiful and yet undemanding
mountain, highly recommended for those that do love hiking in an easy way (soft
Hiking) as hiking to the peak does not require any special climbing gears and actually
does not need a climbing experience.
You can attempt the summit in three days although longer stays would increase your enjoyment of the mountain and the park as well.
Apart from Hiking, travelers in this park are treated to Day walks with in the mountain
forests, the attractions here include the ancient cave paintings near Budadiri.
Come and see the amazing caves and the hot springs. Another fascinating scenery here is the Sipi Falls which is probably one of the Ugandas most beautiful sight. It is a sight worth a visit.
